Walking the San Pedro River south from Charleston Bridge

What a great day for  being outside.  Sunrise with Zeke and Sweetie at 6:30am was colorful and invigorating.  I walked briskly for 3.1 miles in 46:01 miles.  It was a mild 62F and I had worked up a sweat.  It was a real autumn morning with a breeze and overcast sky.   I wore green capris and a light fishing shirt all day with no jacket.

At 9:30am I met Susan and Holly by the Charleston Bridge to wade the river going south. There was more water here than expected.  I could have brought Minnie along!  Instead, I only brought the pups to better manage them.   We all kept our distance.  Susan hung out with Holly as I stayed ahead.

The cottonwoods along the river are now topping their canopies in yellow.  If only the sun could have appeared to bring out the colors.  The water was a little on the cold side and the longer we were in it, the more numb my feet got.

We made the main wash 1.65 miles away our turn-around point, walking a total of 3.25 miles when we got to the bridge.  This would have been too much for Minnie.

Conversation was pleasant.  Holly knows I don't like Trump and she has cut back on her right-wing opinions. Talking politics during a hike ruins the experience of enjoying nature.  But when Susan mentioned Bob the rancher, who also despises Trump, Holly immediately said "I won't like him then." I reminded Susan that Bob is a Republican who just doesn't like Trump.  "OK, because I hate Liberals" added Holly.  That topic ended right there after that.

We chatted on some boulders in the parking lot, drank some water and snacked for a bit as gentle rain drops began to fall. This truly felt like autumn was finally here!  But the rain never really got going.  We are forecasted to have wind and clouds and cool temperatures all this weekend.  The wind has made our Princess Tree in our back yard drop all its leaves late this week.

The dogs all probably got four miles and were exhausted in the Honda on our way back.  I stopped by Fry's for some groceries, to include soup bones for all the dogs.

Still no election results.  Biden is still in the lead but Trump is slowly narrowing the lead. We are also at a serious spike in covid cases globally.  There is fear of another round of a TP shortage again, and lockdowns such as in Ireland and the UK again.
