Yesterday's hike up Slavin Gulch tired me out more than I thought. Today I didn't want to do too much, although I got together with Susan at 12:30pm to walk the dogs along the river. I had thought about going to Bisbee later just to walk around.
The walk started out fine. A female kestrel was perched high in a tree by the Casa de San Pedro, and we noticed yellow buds in the cottonwoods. Isn't it too early for the trees to bloom? One can see the yellow canopies from a distance. Small flowers have dropped to the ground, many getting swept away by the river. Will the buds survive the predicted hard freeze Tuesday and Wednesday?
We weren't long in the hike when a fight between Minnie and Sweetie occurred. Both dogs were in the water and Minnie had a stick, This time Minnie was the aggressor and had Sweetie pinned down IN THE WATER! She didn't seem to fight back, either, which is unusual for her. Her head was barely above the surface but Minnie was not giving in. She is not an easy dog to pull! I got soaked from the waist down trying to separate the dogs but also trying hard to avoid getting caught between two angry dogs.
Sweetie never backs down from a fight, but today's incident traumatized her. For the rest of the walk, she glared at Minnie and we had to continue to keep the two dogs separated. By the end of the walk, however, they were licking each other, although Sweetie showed weakness in her rear right leg again
I ended up not going to Bisbee.
