Hidden Falls, Miller Canyon

The day began with mild temperatures in the upper 30s and an overcast sky which created a pretty sunrise.  I only walked the pups for one short loop, though, before driving to the school.  Once there, I only walked the minimum during my breaks.  I wasn't in the mood to break any walking records since I had so much to do.

I fed all the dogs some wet food for breakfast.  I also started Minnie on a week-long aspirin regimen to see if that will ease her pain and help with her walking.

The big walk today was a short jaunt up to Hidden Falls.  I wanted to see if the falls were running after the snowmelt, which should increase with temperatures the next two weeks in the 60s.  The drainage was dry, but the higher I got in the canyon, the more water was visible.  Much more was hidden by tall grass.  This is such a pretty area that doesn't get much publicity, although the unmarked trail to this little place is right off the Perimeter trail in Miller Canyon.

I let the dogs romp in the water since I didn't bring my backpack (the walk was less than two miles) as I followed the waterfall until it got too steep and rocky.  I turned around here, stopped by the old brickwall. enjoyed the vista and the hues cast by the fading sun over the mountains, and returned the way I came.  This little adventure took less than an hour and I was back home by 5:30pm.

The storm that originated in California and blasted us last week has now dumped heavy snow across Chicagoland and Boston.
